8-months old, and livin' in the Mile-High City!

(not sure why this post says "published by Rick"... it's Leigh Ann here...)

Helloooo friends and family! I hope this update finds you all well. It is Lucy's 8-month birthday, and I figured we were WELL overdue for an update! Unfortunately in all of the moving mayhem I cannot find one of our camera cables, so I am unable to upload all our pics from the last couple of months. However the other camera came through for me so I'll give you as many as I can for now... the rest will come later.

So you may have noticed a distinct lack of 7-month update... we were very busy with the big move to Colorado! In late June we packed up the car and took a nice road trip out here.

Lucy bids an emotional goodbye to her boyfriend (now-ex-) Axel. Axel dumped her because he said he wasn't ready for a long-distance relationship, but we think he is just a playa'. ;)

Lucy did GREAT- way better than expected. She took lots of naps and saved her energy for our stops in Vegas (!!!) and Green River, Utah (???).

Lu and Rick hit Vegas old-skool style.

Awww yeah.

Are we a bad influence?

And for those of our friends who STILL doubt the existence of Mike the Headless Rooster, we made a special stop in Fruita just for you...

Mike the Headless Rooster- we believe in you! (even though some of our friends don't- you KNOW who you are...)

It was great to finally arrive here in Denver safe and sound! We are living with Rick's parents Lois and Fred, and they have been amazing hosts (I am especially enjoying waking up to fresh coffee and breakfast every morning). We are super grateful for their amazing hospitality!

Shortly after we arrived, we took a little day trip up to Fort Collins for a mini college reunion and Brewfest with some of Rick's college buddies. Lucy didn't last too long (lightweight!!!) but she rocked her new CSU hat like a champ!

The CSU crew!

The next weekend was the big Margolin Family Reunion! We had family out from Iowa, Kansas City, California, and even London! It was really great to see everyone, especially ALL of the little cousins- cousin Maebelle decided to start walking in front of the whole family! We had lots of fun swimming, barbecuing, going to the zoo, and just catching up with everyone.

Lu, Me, Uncle Jeff, Aunt Ginger (aka Aunt JuJu) and Great Aunt Anne

Aunt Andrea (aka Aunt Cool), Cousin Genna, Lu, and me

Bubbe LoLo, Aunt Alyssa, and Cousin Erica

That same weekend we also got to visit with my family at Lucy's first Rockies game!

Uncle Matt, Lu, Gangy, me, and Papa Fred

Lu got a little boisterous. This photo was taken before she got ejected from the game- he he.

Once all the reunion excitement died down, it was time to start house shopping! Fortunately we found one on our first day out, we put in an offer, and got it! So we are in escrow now, dealing with all the super fun parts of buying a house (ha ha), and we are set to close on August 19th. We are really really excited to get settled and to get to know our new community of Evergreen. For those of you who don't know, Evergreen is a smallish mountain town just west of Denver. We chose Evergreen because it enables us to live in the mountains but still be very close to friends and family in Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. While we don't know anyone that lives there, we have heard wonderful things about it through friends-of-friends-and-family. We don't want to jinx anything by posting pics of the house yet, but rest assured we will post a bunch when we actually get moved in!

In Lucy news, she is growing up so fast we can hardly believe it! She is sitting up very well all by herself, and I don't think it will be too long until she starts crawling (yikes). She has 2 teeth on the bottom, which are very cute, but I still love her mostly-gummy smile! We have been going in the pool here at Bubbe and Papa's quite a bit, and she seems to enjoy it for the most part- she even goes underwater without any complaining! She is babbling like crazy, and her favorite sound is "mamamamamamamamama". While I would love to think that she is saying "Mama", I'm pretty sure it's just a fun noise at this point! Overall she is an extremely happy and easy-going baby, which we appreciate very much. We are so in love with her, and she is so ridiculously cute we can hardly keep from gobbling her up!

Well other than that, we have just been enjoying the nice hot Colorado summer, visiting family and friends, and getting to know our new digs. While we miss Santa Barbara (well, California in general) and all of our amazing friends and family there, we have been welcomed so warmly here by family and friends that it's hard to be too sad!

Lu partying down at her first Evergreen Lake concert. The girl LOVES beer bottles. Uh oh.

OH I almost forgot! A very exciting bit of news- my brother Matt graduated from high school in June and is headed off to college at Northern Kentucky University in August! We are all SO very proud of him and so excited for his adventures in college. Yay Mattyboy!

Okay well I had better sign off and go get some stuff done. Again, we have more pictures to post as soon as I can find the cable, so stay tuned for another update (hopefully soon!)

P.S. I survived my first tornado scare last night... it was the ONE night I was alone with Lucy and Reggie (Rick is in Sacramento for work and Lois and Fred are on vacation) and there was a CRAZY storm and there were tornado sirens going off in the neighborhood! Which left me to ponder which is worse... earthquakes or tornadoes? I have decided earthquakes are definitely worse, because at least you get sirens to warn you when a tornado is coming!!!
